What is a VPAT?

A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a document that helps you summarise how your website or digital asset addresses the technical requirements of accessibility laws such as EAA.

OUR SOLUTION

Why AudioEye

AudioEye’s VPAT Services provide detailed reports outlining how your digital content meets the technical standards of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG. Leverage the insights to enhance accessibility, showcase your commitment to accessibility, and meet legal compliance requirements.

  • Step 1

First, we’ll audit your website or digital asset to understand its current level of accessibility.

  • Step 2

Then, we’ll fill out the VPAT for you — noting all accessibility features and current limitations.

  • Step 3

Finally, we’ll help you update your VPAT as needed, based on any website or asset changes.

What are the benefits of filling out a VPAT?

  • All US federal agencies — as well as any organisation that works with them — are required to comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, (opens in a new tab)which mandates that all information and communications technology (ICT) is accessible to people with disabilities.

  • Once completed, the VPAT can be used to demonstrate compliance with Section 508 or turned into an Accessibility Conformance Report — a document many suppliers are required to provide during the procurement process.

  • Using a VPAT can help demonstrate your ongoing commitment to accessibility.

Who is required to fill out a VPAT?

There is often confusion about who needs to complete a VPAT document. Although Section 508 is considered federal legislation, it can also apply to:

  • Government Authorities

State, county, and municipal authorities that receive financial assistance from the US government.

  • Subsidised Organisations

Universities, museums, galleries, medical centres, and other organisations that receive federal funding.

  • Contractors

Any contractor — regardless of size or services offered — that wants to work with the US government.
