Background

The team at Visit Delaware(opens in a new tab) is responsible for increasing awareness of the state’s attractions and making it easy for travelers to explore what Delaware has to offer, both in person and online. With more than a third of overnight visitors traveling with someone who has a disability, it was especially important that the website be accessible and user-friendly for everyone.

Challenge

As a small team tasked with promoting the entire state of Delaware as a travel destination, Visit Delaware had limited time and resources to devote to digital accessibility. While they made an effort to follow best practices, like using descriptive alt text and being mindful of color contrast,  there was no formal process or dedicated staff member to ensure their website met accessibility standards across the board.

As content grew and digital expectations increased, maintaining accessibility across the site became more difficult. The events page, in particular, was underperforming despite being a key part of their tourism strategy. The team knew there were opportunities to improve usability, but without a scalable solution, they couldn’t effectively monitor or fix accessibility issues at the pace they needed.

“We always tried to be mindful of accessibility, but we didn’t have the bandwidth or tools to manage it the way we wanted to.”

Solution

To address their accessibility challenges without overextending their resources, Visit Delaware implemented AudioEye in partnership with Simpleview, their website platform provider. The goal was to find a solution that could simplify compliance, deliver measurable improvements, and remove the day-to-day burden from an already stretched team.

With 24/7 issue detection and industry-leading automated fixes, accessibility was no longer something the team had to manually manage. AudioEye provided an all-in-one solution that was easy to implement, required minimal training, and started delivering immediate value. Most importantly, it was cost-effective — a key factor for a team working with a limited budget and staff.

“The biggest surprise for us was how affordable AudioEye is. So many vendors have pitched us, and I always assumed accessibility tools were out of reach for a team our size. But AudioEye is intuitive and easy to use on the backend, and as we evolve, it can evolve with us. It’s scalable and has helped us reach more visitors while staying compliant.”

Results

  • Improved Compliance

With AudioEye, the Visit Delaware team is confident they are keeping pace with evolving accessibility compliance requirements, which have become increasingly complex to manage. Web accessibility regulations and standards, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), continue to change as digital expectations grow and new rules are introduced. For a small team without a dedicated accessibility specialist, staying compliant was a genuine concern.

The team no longer has to monitor every legal update or interpret technical guidelines alone. The platform automatically applies updates and fixes in real time and provides ongoing monitoring to ensure the website continues to meet current standards. This kind of built-in support has been essential for a lean team with limited resources, acting as an extension of their team and helping reduce the risk of falling behind on compliance.

  • Business Impact

Since implementing AudioEye, Visit Delaware has significantly gained page views and user engagement.

    • 45% increase in travel guide requests — a key performance indicator for Visit Delaware

    • 37% increase in page views on the events page, thanks to better navigation and usability

    • 256% increase in page views on the attractions landing page, rising from 9,500 to over 33,000 views

These gains reflected not only a more accessible site but also one that performed better overall, making it easier for visitors to find and act on key travel information. Internally, the platform also sparked broader conversations around accessibility, influencing everything from campaign planning to content design

“Everything is changing so quickly, knowing a trusted tool and team is staying on top of regulations has given us peace of mind.”

— Jessica Welch, Director of the Delaware Tourism Office | Visit Delaware
