The process involves ensuring webpages, applications, and content are compliant (or conform to) accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The purpose of accessibility remediation is to resolve accessibility errors in order for digital content to meet accessibility conformance standards. Additionally, accessibility conformance involves meeting requirements or recommendations included in WCAG 2.2, and others.

The ADA remediation process involves looking at electronic digital assets and ensuring they’re accessible to assistive technologies such as screen readers. The process may involve PDF remediation, document remediation, or additional accessibility testing to ensure assets are accessible.

There are a few approaches you can take to remediating accessibility violations. We recommend using a severity scale which measures the impact the issue has on the user experience. For example, critical issues such as poor screen reader compatibility, missing alternative text (alt text), or missing audio descriptions should be prioritized over minor issues.
